Hublot takes its name from the French word for porthole – the round look-out windows on boats – which explains the screws which pass through the cases of Hublot watches.

Every March, anyone who is anyone in the international watch industry travels to Switzerland – that’s if they’re not there already, of course. In 2010, BaselWorld’s 1915 exhibitors from 45 countries saw 100,700 visitors click through its turnstiles, hailing from 100 countries. Perhaps less well acknowledged were the 30 gardeners and florists responsible for the show’s 75,000 flowers and plants, including roses, tulips and amaryllis.
