A few years ago, if someone asked you try on a ceramic watch, you might have thought this involved strapping a casserole dish to your wrist. That was before Chanel decided to shake up and re-invent the idea of what a ceramic watch was with the simply gorgeous J12.
Rado was one of the first and foremost pioneers in using materials such as Ceramic and Tungsten to produce watches that had special appeal in being virtually scratch proof. Today their ceramic watches - glistening black and metal pieces, are the epitome of sexy luxury cool.
LTD have worked with ceramic to fuse new materials with traditional silhouettes – very desirable timepieces that have an instant “wow” factor about them.
Fashioning watches out of ceramic is no easy task and each watch is painstakingly crafted by hand with a multi-disciplined chain of tasks ranging from baking individualized ceramic parts such as the case, the bracelet and its links in millions of degrees of ceramic furnace heat to polishing each part individually between large grinding stones before assembling all the components to produce a single piece.
The effort, and cost is of course worth it. No other watch today has the same effortless and immediate sense of uptown / downtown global chic nor the same sense of luxury adventure that a full-fledged ceramic diver watch. The ceramic diver from LTD is not only a piece of arm candy high fashion, it is also a highly desirable collectable – with only 50 pieces produced per style; which is a ridiculously small amount given how many we think will sell out by the time you’ve just finished reading this post!
LTD ceramic watches are available at the Time2 concessions in Selfridges around the country for £199. We have a stunning purple dial black ceramic line which is exclusive to us.
