When a watch company proclaims to the world that it is ‘big in oversized watches’ people tend to notice, and that’s exactly what’s happened to Dutch watchmaker TW Steel.
Founded in 2005 by father and son team Tom and Jordy Cobelens, TW STeel has been at the cutting edge of the recent trend for oversized watches. The watches are BIG, 45mm is the smallest size and for those with either the wrist or confidence to pull it off there are 50mm versions available.
My opinion is buy the biggest one that will fit onto your wrist and suffer any issues that might come along with a smile. I sport a 48mm Tech that has a black rubber strap and bright red dial, alongside this I have a 45mm divers TW Steel that is regularly borrowed by my petite 5’2 wife and am deciding which one I might get next. You might think I’m a little obsessed and you would be right! Every time I wear a TW Steel it makes me smile, it’s a little bit mad and it’s not to everyone’s taste, but that’s what I like.
TW Steel’s association with the Renault (now Lotus) F1 team has really elevated them onto a whole new stage, after 5 years they are not seen as the new boys but as company to be taken very seriously. Their lastest tie-up is with the California tourist board and to celebrate this they have launched the California collection which will soon be on sale at our Selfridges concession.
Remember the name TW Steel here, to make the world realise bigger is always better.
