Time²’s expert designer watch buyer Keira Payne-Gibbs has been out in Switzerland at BaselWorld 2011, the world’s biggest watch trade show, to source some fantastic new brands and fabulous watch collections for AW11. TIME² blog readers have been given an insight into her pick of the top trends for autumn/winter 11...
CERAMIC
“I’ve seen a lot of super slim cases on classic watches for men, even in ceramic. Ceramic is still strong, but we’re seeing a lot of brown ceramic."
MATTE BLACK FINISH
“Matte black finishes on ceramic, silicone, rubber and PVD were very strong at Basel this year. This trend reflects the look of matte black finishes on high-end luxury cars. Apparently this look in the US is called ‘murdered’ - nice!
MILITARY
“Military is still strong for AW11, with both vintage pieces and ‘surplus’ style finishes.”
POP COLOURS
“Pop colours are still very much out there and there was also a huge amount of coloured aluminium. The colour teal was also used in aluminium and silicone.
ROSE GOLD MIX
“There is so much rose gold, but it is now mixed with brown or grey PVD, not just black.
SIZE AND MATERIAL
“We’re seeing smaller ladies’ case sizes for AW11 and super slim cases on classic men's watches, alongside transparent cases in either glass of plastic. But generally, plastic watches are going off the boil- yesterday’s news! Aluminium is the new plastic.
