The International Watch Company (or IWC) is a luxury Swiss watch brand; but founded by an American watchmaker back in 1868. Engineer and watchmaker Florentine Ariosto Jones had the vision to create a new watch brand, which combined the Swiss’ legendary craftsmanship with more modern US technology and watch parts. This perfect fusion of quality movements and up-to-date parts would be perfect for selling to the large US watch market. His plan was to have the watches assembled in Switzerland and then imported back to the United States – hence the name International Watch Company.

Since they first combined cutting edge American engineering with Swiss craftsmanship in 1868, IWC (“International Watch Co.”) has continually pushed the boundaries of the luxury watch industry.

IWC has partnered with the Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority (ADTA) to become the first major sponsor of its Volvo Ocean Race 2011/12 team, Abu Dhabi Ocean Racing. The landmark deal, marking the luxury Swiss brand’s debut in top-tier global team sport sponsorship, will run throughout the entire Volvo Ocean Race 2011/12 campaign, which ends in Galway, Ireland in July 2012, after making nine stopovers, including the UAE capital on New Year’s Day.

For the first time and exclusive to Selfridges, TIME² has the honour to showcase the rare, limited edition IWC Portuguese Regulateur Tourbillon watch range (with only 100 pieces available in rose gold, white gold and platinum).

SIHH, The Salon International De La Haute Horlogerie, is a landmark event for the luxury fine watch sector and TIME² will be reporting live from the week-long show which kicks off on Monday January 17.
