TAG Heuer’s auction of rare ‘Haslinger collection’ fine watches at Bonhams in London yesterday broke world records on price, TIME² can reveal.
Bonhams told TIME² that the auction, which celebrated TAG Heuer’s 150th anniversary, made a total of £475,764.
The top selling item, a Monaco watch (pictured first), made £48,000 - almost four times more than its estimate of £10,000-15,000 and a new world record for a Monaco watch at auction.
The second highest priced item, a 1969 Autavia (pictured second), sold for £30,000 - almost three times more than its estimate of £10,000-15,000) and also a world record price for this model at auction.
An 18ct gold 1972 Carrera (pictured third) went for £22,800, more than double its estimate of £7,000-9,000.
The TAG Heuer Monaco model worn by Steve McQueen in the 1970’s auto-racing film Le Mans, which was expected to fetch up to £9,000, sold for a staggering £18,000.
