TIME² expert fashion watch buyer Keira Payne-Gibbs explains the rise in popularity of ceramic watches. She says: “Ceramic watches originally came from Chanel a few years ago, but they were not accessible because of the price points. So, when the watch brands started producing ceramic watches they were a lot cheaper than the original, but still looked like the Chanel J12.
"Brands’ original ceramic watches were a popular homage to the Chanel J12, but the brands have now developed their own styles to become more identifiable to that particular brand.
"A ceramic watch is a great purchase for 2011 – the price is good, it feels good and it looks good.”
