REVIEW - Breitling Windrider Series

BREITLING CHRONOMAT

When it was created in 1984 – originally to the specifications of the Frecce Tricolori flight team – the Chronomat became Breitling’s best-selling watch, and it remains so to this day. Characterised by the rotating rider-tab bezel and class-leading mechanical chornograph, Breitling describe it as the archetype “instrument for professionals”.

It’s screw-locked pushpieces make it water resistant up to 300m (so it’s ideal for swimming and diving), and this mechanism also protects it from shocks. The Chronomat is powered by the in-house Breitling Caliber 13 movement, which is believed to be one of the most accurate self-winding movements in watchmaking.

BREITLING GALACTIC

The Galactic 41 is an ideal choice for men who do not necessarily need the plethora of technical functions that most Breitling pieces offer, but who still want their renowned world-class movements and impeccable build quality. The Galactic 41 is characterised by its clean and sporty look, and its elegant double window displaying the date. But it’s certainly no show pony: it contains the excellent certified Breitling Caliber 49 chronometer, and is water resistant to 300m.

Elsewhere in the Galactic range you’ll find plenty of diminutive models designed for ladies. With just a 30mm case, the Galactic 30 is described by Breitling as “the smallest star” in its galaxy – but it certainly shines bright. Its SuperQuartz Breitling 71 Caliber movement is ten times more precise than a standard one, and you’ll have no problems taking it for a swim with its 100m water resistance.
