Men's Watch Style - TW Steel Lead Black On Black

This has definitely become one of my favourite types of watches to own as when they are done right they look amazing and become a real statement piece on your wrist. Unfortunately too many of the cheap fashion brands have tried and failed to pull off this type of watch. If the casing, strap and styling of the face are not all perfect, then the watch can actually come off looking really cheap and ‘tacky’, whilst blending in with the rest of your outfit.

This TW Steel Cool Black 50mm TW821 Men's Watch is definitely a great example of how this style of watch should be done. Firstly, I love the contrast between the black leather strap and the black PVD coated casing, as even though they are exactly the same colour, it still gives that slight variation in tone which sets it apart from the cheaper models you find. The styling is also perfect on the watch face; the use of grey detailing for the numbers, chronograph dials and hands makes them all stand out subtly... which is key on a watch like this.

The watch has an oversized 50mm dial, good weight to it and very chunky casing, which reminds me of luxury watches made by the likes of U-boat, and at just £425 this is a very good alternative for a fraction of the price. The chunky styling makes this watch a very powerful and masculine piece - I would advise against opting for the 50mm if you are a male with small forearms/wrists (or female) as they do a slightly smaller 45mm face which would be more suitable and not overpower your slim frame.

In terms of wear-ability, this watch would work just as well in casual outfits as it would with a suit. Pair it with military or nautical pieces in order to play on the very masculine and naval influences that are clear in the styling. Alternatively just throw it on with shorts and a tee/vest in the summer and let it become the focal point of your whole outfit. This is the key watch style of the moment, and TW Steel has nailed it.
