Festival footwear is really is dependent on the weather, but if you want to be prepared you could take a pair of wellies and rock them with your shorts all weekend. However, if you invest in a pair of leather military boots, they will be able to stand up to most weather conditions, whilst offering your outfit something extra. They also hit the major shorts and boots trend we are seeing within menswear this season; in particular ankle to mid-length boots look great with denim shorts and military inspired shirts.
If you are a casual shoe fan, then opt for something more structured (and solid) like a classic Vans trainer – you will thank me when multiple people are standing and dropping things on your feet! These also come in every colour and pattern under the sun, so there is a style for all tastes.
Of course, nearly everyone else will pack similar items to you for a festival as they are the clothing essentials. Shorts, graphic tees/vests, check shirts and the like have become the norm, so how do you go about separating yourself? Well the answer to this - as always - is through accessories.
There are a variety of accessories you can utilise in order to add individual touches and create a unique look to you. Of course, being at a festival means you should not spend too much money on these items as it is very likely you will lose a lot of them over the course of a weekend. Rope pendants, wooden bracelets and bangles are a good place to start if you want to add some form of jewellery, as the ethnic trend is a big one in menswear this year. Navajo print backpacks are also another thing to consider, as they are relatively inexpensive, practical and add an interesting statement print to your outfits.
Hats are a great way of standing out, as many males do not have the confidence to wear a hat that isn’t a beanie or baseball cap. Why not try a bowler or pork pie hat to really stake a claim for most stylish male this year? Or if that is a little too much for you then there is always the indie choice aka the trilby or fedora. As it is summer you should look for lightweight versions in straw, but don’t be restricted in your colour choice. There are plenty out there at the moment in bold blue and even red coloured straw, whilst looking for extra features in the form of coloured ribbons or bands around the base shows an attention to detail.
Writing for TIME², I couldn’t finish this post without mentioning watches. Again at a festival you don’t want to be spending a huge amount on a watch for a weekend, but the fact is these are items you can transfer and use in your regular casual outfits as well.
TIME² has an wide range of coloured timepieces which will make you stand out in any situation; for instance, you can pick up an amazing coloured Casio watch for just £20, a bold white, purple or sky blue watch by LTD for £60, or even one of Diesel’s new 2 colour blend watches for £69. All these will last you right the way through the summer, so after the music festivals finish you can pack it in your case for the summer holidays and rock it at weekends when the sun is shining.
For the brand junkies amongst you, celebrity favourite G-Shock also produces a range of fun coloured statement watches that are both durable and stylish, ranging from £85 - £250 dependant on model. I would particularly recommend the all white version or Aviator orange watch – both of which have just been released.
However, if you are looking for THE fashion watch of the summer, then look no further than iconic brand ToyWatch, who’s fluo collection comes in every colour imaginable and retail at £130.
