Juicy Couture stands for cheeky and unapologetically girly LA style. And as the watch collection goes to show, it’s far more than bubblegum velour tracksuits.
A favourite of Madonna, Demi Moore, Reese Witherspoon and Kate Hudson, Juicy Couture is by all accounts a cult brand - so much so that it has infiltrated both high and low culture. A pink Juicy tracksuit is in the permanent fashion collection at London’s Victoria & Albert museum, while Mattel sell blonde and brunette Juicy Couture Barbie dolls modelled on the founders. The dolls come complete with shopping bags sporting slogans like Viva la Juicy, Live for Sugar and Love P & G – which stands for Pamela Skaist-Levy (the brunette) and Gela Nash-Taylor (the blonde one).
A milliner and an actress by training, the two began making maternity jeans and launched Juicy Couture in 1994, going on to create collections for men, children and dogs. By 2005, the pair, who had begun the business in an LA flat with an investment of $200 each and drafted in a cleaning lady to help with shipping orders, were inducted into the Council of Fashion Designers of America, the American fashion establishment's trade association.
The new season’s Juicy Couture Timepieces put hot pink, tourquoise, white and gold in the spotlight – whether it’s the playful sporty jelly-strapped BFF Princess watch or the elegant gold-plated Lively Ceramic. Bringing together straps from the same leather as the brand’s handbags, velour and terry straps from the same material as the tracksuits, and using the Juicy crown logo for watch crowns, these are party watches for everyday. No excuse for dressing up needed.
