A relative newcomer to the watch market, Maurice Lacroix has been a purveyor of distinctive and technically exceptional luxury pieces since 1975. You may have seen it advertised by brand ambassadors Bob Geldof and Justin Rose on the pages of upmarket lifestyle magazines, but there’s a lot more to this Swiss brand than meets the eye. Here’s five reasons to invest in one of its luxury time-pieces...
MAURICE LACROIX PRIDES ITSELF ON QUALITY
All Maurice Lacroix watches are developed and produced in-house at its ultra-modern headquarters in the Swiss Jura mountains. Here, the brand imposes its own uncompromising standards during and after assembly to guarantee high quality every time. Before it leaves the premises, every single watch will undergo ten solid days of rigorous testing; ensuring everything from accuracy control to water resistancy. Only after it passes all these tests can the watch leave the workshop and earn its two-year manufacturer’s guarantee.
MAURICE LACROIX BOASTS AWARD-WINNING DESIGNS
There’s nothing quite like an industry-approved award to bolster a manufacturer’s reputation and Maurice Lacroix has more than a few on its proverbial mantle piece. The prestigious Red Dot Design Awards gave its highest distinction (“Best of the Best”) to the Pontos Decentrique [PIC 1] when it was launched in 2006. This year, an updated special-edition of the celebrated piece won the award again. Sometimes, it seems, lightning does strike twice.
MAURICE LACROIX PRODUCES GAME-CHANGING MOVEMENTS
The Swiss brand started producing its own movements in 2006. The ML160 Calibre drastically improved a chronograph design that has been virtually untouched since the 1800s by introducing several new patents, and the self-winding ML112 Calibre – found in the Pontos Chronograph [PIC 2] – is rhodium plated and incorporates 25 jewels in its design. Also, the Les Classiques Phases de Lune [PIC 3] is notable by its ML154 movement, renowned for its reliability and accuracy.
MAURICE LACROIX HAS AN EXCELLENT LADIES’ RANGE
Maurice Lacroix’s Fiaba [PIC 4] and Les Classiques [PIC 5] collections both contain pieces that will make a perfect accompaniment for a lady wishing to dazzle a room. The stunning Les Classiques Date is a prime example, with its automatic date movement, diamond hour markers and bezel, and an understated mother of pearl dial. It’s available at TIME² here [PIC 6].
MAURICE LACROIX IS A DEDICATED FOLLOWER OF FASHION
Many watchmakers rely on the popularity of a classic design, but Maurice Lacroix does not rest on its aesthetic laurels. It has brought in famed Zurich-based designer Clifford Lilley to uphold its ethos of “head to wrist” fashion, ensuring your timepieces fall in line with current trends. In this VIDEO, for example, Lilley explains how a Maurice Lacroix chronograph with blue dial will team up perfectly with the blue clothes and accessories that are currently in vogue.
