Five Reasons To Buy A Watch As A Gift This Christmas!

Well it’s that time of year again. As Christmas looms ever closer, perhaps you’re thinking of buying a watch but unsure which one? Here’s some reasons why I think a watch would make the perfect gift and some suggestions that should fit most people’s budgets.

A GIFT THAT'S...PRACTICAL

Not everyone likes to receive practical presents, however gifting a watch is a great way of giving something that is both indulgent and practical at the same time!

Even a simple watch which just looks elegant and tells the time is practical, however if the person you’re gifting needs lots of different uses, then buying them a multi-feature watch is the way to go. A great example of watch a packed with features is the Casio G-Shock Premium Watch (£275). This shock resistant timepiece not only tells the time, but is water resistant, has a stopwatch, dual time and many many more features...with the addition of analogue hands it has those classic good looks too.

A GIFT THAT'S...PERMANENT

With many gifts that people receive over Christmas, by the time the new year comes most of those are used, eaten, read or simply broken! A watch is a perfect gift that will still seem exciting and shiny by summer and will be worn for many years to come. If you’re buying a watch as a gift which needs to stand the test of time, then going for a classic looking timepiece is recommended. Most watch companies offer classic looking watches, which typically are made with stainless steel, have a black face with clear legible dials. Adding a stainless steel bracelet will mean the watch can be worn with practically any outfit. The timeless good looks of a Tissot Le Locle (£370) automatic ladies watch is a perfect example of a timeless design that would become a permanent fixture on someone’s wrist for many years.

A GIFT THAT'S...ORIGINAL

For many people watches are the ultimate accessory and whilst many look similar there are a few watches which choose to be different. Gifting a very unique looking watch is a fantastic way to tell someone they have individual style and flare. Probably one of the most distinctive watches to be released this year is the Bell & Ross BR01-92 Red Radar (£3,800) Using a very innovative method of rotating discs this watch displays an aviation styled radar display to represent the hours, minutes or seconds. With only 999 pieces made in the world, you can almost guarantee you won’t see another person wearing a watch like this!

A GIFT THAT'S...ACCURATE

Whether you want to impress someone by gifting a present that is ultra efficient or perhaps the person you know needs a bit of help with their timekeeping...a new watch is a perfect way to excite and assist! Every watch company would like you to believe that they produce the most accurate watches, however if you want to go one better, then I’d recommend you look at the Bulova Precisionist (£199). Not only does this watch look lovely, but it’s claimed to the be the world’s most accurate watch with a sweeping second hand. Powered by a quartz movement, Bulova have added a third prong to the quartz crystal which helps accuracy (which in other watches can be effected by temperature or vibration). Whereas most quartz watches are accurate to 15 seconds a month, the Bulova Precisionst claims to be accurate to 10 seconds a year....that’s impressive!

A GIFT THAT'S...AN INVESTMENT

If you want to give a gift that will potentially increase in value over time then a luxury watch is a perfect present for the long term. These days, to buy an investment watch you normally have to purchase something that’s already gained value, such as a vintage piece - however there are a few modern watches which will act as a great long term investment.

One watch which will undoubtedly increase in value is the Bremont Mustang P-51 (£7,450). Since being released in autumn this year, of the 251 pieces - only a handful are now remaining. This might sound like a hard sales tactic, however if you consider that recently a similar limited Bremont from 2008 (EP120) sold for 40% more than the original price - that’s a considerable return on investment in only 3 years, and the popularity of the P-51 is sure to follow in it’s footsteps as a future classic.
