Formula 1 chief Bernie Ecclestone has used a violent mugging to his advantage, after thieves stole a Hublot watch and £200,000 worth of jewellery from him and his girlfriend outside London offices a few days ago.
Reportedly, Bernie picked up the phone shortly after the incident and rang Swiss matchmakers Hublot, a brand stocked in Selfridges Wonder Room and ‘The Official Watch of Formula 1’, to negotiate a new ad campaign.
Subsequently, a picture of a bruised and battered looking Bernie appeared with the strapline ‘See What People Will Do For A Hublot.’
It’s certainly an eye-catching advert, not to everyone’s taste, but a clever pun on an otherwise traumatic event. Turning adversity into opportunity doesn’t get much better than this!
