In the world of high jewellery, no brand manages to be more celebrity-friendly than Chopard. The brand enjoys a rich and illustrious history with the world of cinema, not only as an official sponsor of the Cannes film festival, but also as a firm favourite amongst movie stars. Did you know that, for the last 5 years, all the winners of the actress in a leading role Oscar were wearing Chopard on the night of the academy awards, establishing the brand as a lucky charm!
It only seems obvious that Chopard was selected to dress all the lead stars in the new movie Nine, the adaptation of the Tony award Winning Broadway musical. The film stars Nicole Kidman, Penelope Cruz, Kate Hudson, Marion Cottillard, Daniel Day Lewis, Judie Dench and Sophia Loren.
As a buyer, I have a tough job with many social obligations. One recent example was when I was invited by Chopard in the presence of Caroline Scheufele, its ever glamourous co-president and artistic director, to the world premiere of the movie in Leicester Square last week. As I was making my way on the red carpet sporting my attention-seeking Chopard Mille Miglia Gran Turismo XL to off balance my £80 New Look suit, I noticed Nicole to my left and Kate to my right. We’re now on first name basis.
The movie has a fantastic aesthetic and the musical scenes were amazing. The stars dazzled in Chopard's most outrageous creations throughout the whole film (check out Nicole Kidman’s earrings and Kate Hudson’s ring!)
But that's enough of being a film critic. After all, my attentions were needed at Claridges for the official première party where the beautiful people sipped champagne while listening to Beverly Knight and the Noisettes.
The most impressive, jaw-dropping celebrity sighting of the night? Penelope Cruz. The woman is “out of this world” gorgeous. Unfortunately I couldn’t get a picture but did manage to whisper “Hola” to her as she walked past me.
Sometimes, the life of a humble watch buyer isn't too bad!
