This time last year I was moaning about snow and arctic conditions in Berlin. Whilst it isn’t exactly tropical in 2011 at least I could feel my extremities. Maybe it was because I was warmed into a happy smile by this seasons offering from Bread and Butter, the twice annual fashion trade show held in Germany’s capital every January and July.
This year definitely had more of a focus on watches, and an eclectic mix at that. Bright colours are definitely back and Gio Goi's offering for the modern raver didn’t disappoint. Back in my day Gio Goi was associated with the Hacienda and undercover warehouse parties in the M25 orbital, and if the 2011 offering of watches from them were around in the 90’s they’d have gone down a storm.
Flud watches made their first appearance at B&B too. Tucked in a back room this quirky brand from the US made me squeal with excitement! Their rendition of a 1980’s boom box on your wrist was refreshingly different. They make you sit up and take notice.
Triwa had their second season here. This acrylic-based, Scandinavian brand is a far cry from Toy and has found its own niche in the trend.
Channelling my ever-present vintage trend is Vintage by Fé. This brand by Nic and Mel from Sweden makes its debut here this season. Pocket watches and classic pieces compliment the brand’s fashion pieces.
Finally in the L.O.C.K. (Labels of Common Kin) hall there was a surprise appearance from Laco watches. This German brand dates from 1925 and has strong collector’s pieces. Their aviator pieces and vintage styles are bang on trend and clearly have a place at the show, but like all brands in L.O.C.K the price of these beautifully made watches aren’t accessible to everyone.
